A Couple of Projects

It's been awhile since I made a post.  I'd like this to be a journal for my crafting so I can look back and see what I have done.  I'm just keep procrastinating.  I've done a couple of different projects since then and here are a few.

Wrist Warmers (~Aug 24 & Sept 7)

I learned how to knit at GenCon this year.  The knitting 2 class project was the wrist warmers/fingerless gloves see here.  They are a p2 k2 pattern.  Not too bad but I do wish I had made them longer. I'm sorry but I can't find the instructor's name.

Knitted Hat(~Sept)

I really enjoy knitting and decided to make a hat to go with the wrist warmers.  I found this great pattern, Antelope Hat .  This time I tried using circular needles which I think work great.

Baby Beholder (~Sept 3)

I met a very cool lady in the dealer hall at GenCon.  She had some crocheted items for sale so I stopped to check them out.  She was selling mostly beholders but she also had a crocheted flail.  We chatted for a bit and I offered my help to make more beholders for next year.  This is my first attempt.  I crocheted much too tight which made it too small.  But this mistake made a cute baby beholder, I just embroidered a mouth on instead of the regular mouth.

Beholder(~Sept 17)

This is how the beholder is supposed to look.  The pattern is made by Tiffany Wiggs at darn-yarn.com , I will not post it since it is her own personal pattern.  If you'd like a beholder you can order one here Beholder .  This one I made sure I crocheted looser and it turned out well.

Amigurumi Doll (~Sept 13)

This doll is from the pattern in Amigurumi! Super Happy Crochet Cute by Elisabeth A. Doherty.  It's the same one I used for a previous doll shown in the third picture.  I had made a doll for my eldest daughter and thought that my youngest needed one too.  So I used the same pattern altering the color choices, making shorts instead of a skirt, and making a different face and hair style.

Trying Some New Pumpkin Carving Techniques

We had a bunch of small pumpkins this year so I made a tower.  There is a hole through the middle of all the pumpkins so that the light can travel through all three pumpkins from the candle in the bottom pumpkin.  I just wish I had more time to try out some different pictures on them, like it would have been cool to do a Jack over all three pumpkins.

My eldest decided she wanted a Tiana pumpkin, the princess from the Princess and the Frog Disney movie.  I found a pattern online and it turned out well.

My youngest loves Elmo so that is of course what she wanted.  I first tried carving all the way through but sections were too thin to support the weight of the rest.  Instead I used a power chisel to create the image by  carving down to a thin layer of the pumpkin wall.  The pattern was also found online.

I've been wanting to try a foam pumpkin to see how it is.  I first tried carving down to a thin layer in the wall but the light wasn't coming through like I wanted it to.  So I cut all the way through and it held well.  I wasn't too impressed with the foam pumpkin.  I think I'd rather just use regular pumpkins, part of the fun is making a new pumpkin every year.  This pattern was also found online.
